Leon Trotsky was born November 1979 as Lev Davidovich Bronstein. Trotsky was a Bolshevik revolutionary and a Marxist theorist. As leader of the Russian October Revolution, he was second only to Lenin. The October Revolution was a political revolution. He also was second in leading the 1917 Russian Revolution.

Some more commonly known Leon Trotsky facts include his failure in leading the struggle against Stalin’s policies of the 1920’s. For his actions, the communist party expelled him and deported Trotsky to the Soviet Union. There, he was an advocate for the Red Army early on. Trotsky was very outspoken about his opposition to Stalin and Hitler’s 1930’s peace agreement.

While in exile, Trotsky continued to speak out against Stalin’s actions and beliefs and his bureaucracy. He was one of the very few figures in politics that the Soviet administration could not get to apologize for his actions and rehab back to their beliefs.

Some of the more popular Leon Trotsky facts are about his time in prison. Trotsky married a female Marxist by the name of Aleksandra Sokolovskaya. In 1900 Trotsky and wife were moved into exile in Siberia for a 4 years. While in Odessa, their two daughters, Nina and Zinaida were born. During this time, Trotsky also began to learn about the troubles within the party.

In 1902 Trotsky escaped from Siberia and took the pseudonym of the jailer who held him in Odessa. After escaping, he made his way to London where he became one of the editors of the Iskra and wrote under the pen name Pero.

His escape from imprisonment in Odessa was done alone out of necessity. His wife was on board with his decision however. In 1902 Trotsky met Natalia Sedova whom he would later marry and they remained together until he was killed. Natalia and Trotsky parented two children together.

Throughout Trotsky’s life, he continued to fight for what he believed in and was always the political activist. In 1918, he would come to lead the dissolving Red Army while they fought against the Germans. He also led them through their fight in the Russian civil war. But in 1925, ts all changed and with the loss of his Red Army posts, Trotsky fell into some hardships. He spent that winter and following spring unemployed.

In 1928, Trotsky was once again sent to exile, this time in Alma Ata then moved to Turkey in 1929 along with his wife and son. During this time, many of the Trotskyists that followed him began to waver and eventually admitted their mistakes and were eventually reinstated into the Communist Party. Trotsky however stuck to his beliefs until his assassination in 1940 in his home in Mexico. Agent Ramon Mercader killed Trotsky brutally with an ice axe.
